Christina Alexandra “Chrystia” Freeland is a Canadian politician who was sworn in as Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance on November 20, 2019. She is a member of the Liberal Party and represents the riding of University-Rosedale in Toronto.Freeland began her career as a journalist, covering economic news for the Financial Times, The Globe and Mail, and Reuters. She then became the managing editor of the Financial Times in the United States. In 2013, she left journalism to enter politics, winning a by-election in the Toronto riding.
